Project Summary

Nym is a privacy-focused protocol launched in 2018 that enhances online security by obfuscating both the content and metadata of internet communications and transactions, making it hard for anyone to track or monitor the flow of data. It uses a mixed network (mixnet) to encrypt and mix internet traffic, ensuring anonymity and privacy for its users. Nym also incentivizes network participants through its own cryptocurrency, NYM, to maintain high standards of performance, security and guarantee decentralization. Nym blockchain is called Nyx and it’s based on Cosmos-SDK.

Why is it on CER?

Nym is on CER as its promise is to anonymize internet activities on a level that was unthinkable only a few years ago, and it’s now a real functioning infrastructure that managed to raise an incredible amount of funding, engaging a global distributed community in the process.

It’s one of the clearest examples of why and how blockchain technology can and should be used, and find itself positioned on the side of the Commons in the crucial struggle against the Surveillance Capitalism of Big Tech and authoritarian governments worldwide.
